For those of us living or visiting a bit further out of the city, it’s great to know that there are a few Gluten Free options available to us and Columbus Coffee has more than a few!
Situated inside Mitre 10 Mega Upper Hutt, why not combine weekend DIY shopping with Brunch, a snack or even a late lunch to eat without the rush.
This is a chain cafe with branches in many locations through the Wellington Region and indeed the whole of New Zealand. I cannot really speak of the other branches at this time but I am often at this one on weekends, at least to pick up a coffee.
I’ve been able to have the above sweet treat, to a savoury light lunch, through to a full big breakfast type meal at this particular outlet. These are several items on the set menu, usually at least 5 things in the cabinet and often a special on the board too.
The food is always pretty yummy, the service is friendly and fast, particularly if you pick your timing well – this place gets busy! – a testament to their food.
The crepes, salads, frittata, Louise slice and orange almond cake were all gluten free on this day. They often also have gluten free brownies – a popular favourite.
Menu items include a Paleo Bowl, Benedict Rosti and a Garden Goodness Bowl.
If you’re in Upper Hutt and looking for food and maybe to solve a few DIY or gardening problems on the side, definitely check out Columbus in Mitre 10 Mega. Let me know what different options they have when you do!
Quiquiquiri is one of a few unique places within the Capital Market Foodcourt. Almost everything they make is Gluten Free! 100% of what they make is delicious!
When this place first opened, I got obsessed. I was determined to eat everything I could off the menu. This place is Mexican Fusion and has Burritos, Fajitas, Quesadillas, Tacos, JALAPENO POPPERS! Nachos, Patatas as well as snacks of Fries, Churros and Popcorn Chicken. You can vary most of these to have either meat or vegetarian options, including Chipotle Chicken and Mushroom based options. The Quesadillas can be made Gluten Free and are so yummy. A word of warning, they sometimes as if you are sure you want jalapeños and I have certainly had some hot ones from here!!
The prices are mid range for the but the portions are extremely generous and the food always satisfies. You can get smaller portions of Tacos, 1, 2, or 3. One thing to note if you are short on time, they can take a while to prepare your meal as everything is made to order. This means everything is freshly prepared, for you!
Meals are served in compostable containers too!
Find Quiquiquiri in the Capital Market – Accessible via Edward Street (off Victoria St) or enter from 151 Willis Street, Wellington CBD. The market is open every day from 10:30am to 9pm. It’s a busy spot at lunch time and I will be featuring more offerings from this market on this blog in the near future!
