Quiquiquiri is one of a few unique places within the Capital Market Foodcourt. Almost everything they make is Gluten Free! 100% of what they make is delicious!
When this place first opened, I got obsessed. I was determined to eat everything I could off the menu. This place is Mexican Fusion and has Burritos, Fajitas, Quesadillas, Tacos, JALAPENO POPPERS! Nachos, Patatas as well as snacks of Fries, Churros and Popcorn Chicken. You can vary most of these to have either meat or vegetarian options, including Chipotle Chicken and Mushroom based options. The Quesadillas can be made Gluten Free and are so yummy. A word of warning, they sometimes as if you are sure you want jalapeños and I have certainly had some hot ones from here!!
The prices are mid range for the but the portions are extremely generous and the food always satisfies. You can get smaller portions of Tacos, 1, 2, or 3. One thing to note if you are short on time, they can take a while to prepare your meal as everything is made to order. This means everything is freshly prepared, for you!
Meals are served in compostable containers too!
Find Quiquiquiri in the Capital Market – Accessible via Edward Street (off Victoria St) or enter from 151 Willis Street, Wellington CBD. The market is open every day from 10:30am to 9pm. It’s a busy spot at lunch time and I will be featuring more offerings from this market on this blog in the near future!
Not specific to Wellington, Hell Pizza is a nationwide phenomenon. The company started in Wellington in 1996 and has grown to be a real NZ icon. What is great for the Gluten Free amongst us, is that the cater extremely well to our special dietary needs.
Let’s start with Pizza. Hell Pizza offer not one, but two gluten free bases. The standard base has definitely improved over the years but the best development on their part has been the sprouted seed base that was introduced with the development of their pizza touted as “The Saviour”. While I am not a massive fan of the Saviour myself, as I like my takeaways a bit more trashy, you can select to use the base on other pizzas. I am a personal fan of ordering online and purchasing “The Creator”, selecting the seed base, and going crazy with whatever mood strikes me.
Hell Pizza also supplies a VERY handy guide to all known allergens for those who want a quick reference guide. This can be found here: Hell Pizza Allergen Guide
AND they have super handy filters on their website. You can search and narrow down your options with this handy search function.
Hell’s Gluten Free menu does not stop there. There are plenty of sides including:
Free Range Chicken Wings
Lamb Shank and Mash
I’ve noticed too that if I order a pizza on a gluten free base, I am alerted to which sauces are not gluten free as well. This avoids any disastrous mistakes made to an otherwise wonderful pizza!
And one final word of reassurance: Hell Pizza is accredited under the following programme approved by the Coeliac Society NZ.
So if you’re visiting New Zealand and are looking for an easy option after an arduous amount of travel to get here, you’ve had a hard day and don’t feel like cooking, you’ve made a mistake and forgot to restock your fridge with anything worth scratching together, I recommend Hell Pizza, where you can either dine in, take away or have delivered. They’ve served me well for many years now and continue to improve their range as time goes on. They’re a go-to; GO TO HELL! 😉
